SYRIA. Phoenicia. Tyre. AR Shekel (14.02 gms), Dated CY 116 (11/10 B.C.). NGC AU, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5. Brushed.
RPC-4646; HGC-10, 357. Obverse: Laureate bust of Melkart right, with drapery tied around neck; Reverse: Eagle standing left on prow; palm frond behind; to left, PIς (date) above downward club; to right, KP above monogram; Phoenician A between legs. Pleasingly toned and offering a fairly solid strike, this RARE date is from the series referred to in the Bible as the "thirty pieces of silver."
